blog 7-wikipedia
On Wikipedia, I looked up my Hometown and current city I reside in; Detroit Michigan. I chose Detroit because it is a city I have a lot of prior knowledge about. The mission was to compare how accurate wikipedia’s information was, based off my prior knowledge. In the Wikipedia article they talked about the history of Detroit and the historic buildings that are located in the city. A lot of the historic buildings they showed were in fact very familiar to me because I had seen them in person. For instance, they showed the Old Main building that is located right here on campus at Wayne State University. Also they showed the Renaissance Center, the Fox Theatre and The Detroit Institute of Arts. All of those significant buildings hold important history. Wikipedia also brought up the many things Detroit is known for like the automotive industry, its metropolitan area and more. It mentioned its nicknames "Motor City", "Motown", "The 313". Those are all indeed nicknames of my city. The article went on to discuss the population of the city. According to my knowledge, Detroit is a very populous city. Wikipedia definitely stressed that fact. They discussed how the population has changed over time and what it is like now in particular areas in Detroit, as well as Detroit as a whole. They talked about where Detroit’s population ranks among the rest of the State as well as the rest of the nation. All numbers sounded correct to me. Wikipedia also mentioned the many schools Detroit has. They highlighted that Detroit has the largest public school system in Michigan and is home to many colleges. They listed the colleges that reside here in Detroit, I was familiar with all of them, especially my own: Wayne state University. There is so much to know and learn about the city of Detroit; I wouldn’t have enough time to tell you in this 250-word blog. So far the few important things I looked over in Wikipedia all were true as far as I am concerned. I don’t think it’s a bad source to use for research. I actually like Wikipedia.

To me Wiki only screws up real controversial recent things. Stuff people try desperately to change out of some reason. As things become more contested, they are just left out.
So what is left usually is acceptable. I like it as well never the less.
I like Wikipedia too. It seems like the less specific your topic is the more information they have on it. For example baseball vs The Homerun Derby.
Detroit is my home town as well and I have alot of prior knowledge about it. I think Wiki has pretty good facts about all the big urban cities.
