blog 7-wikipedia
On Wikipedia, I looked up my Hometown and current city I reside in; Detroit Michigan. I chose Detroit because it is a city I have a lot of prior knowledge about. The mission was to compare how accurate wikipedia’s information was, based off my prior knowledge. In the Wikipedia article they talked about the history of Detroit and the historic buildings that are located in the city. A lot of the historic buildings they showed were in fact very familiar to me because I had seen them in person. For instance, they showed the Old Main building that is located right here on campus at Wayne State University. Also they showed the Renaissance Center, the Fox Theatre and The Detroit Institute of Arts. All of those significant buildings hold important history. Wikipedia also brought up the many things Detroit is known for like the automotive industry, its metropolitan area and more. It mentioned its nicknames "Motor City", "Motown", "The 313". Those are all indeed nicknames of my city. The article went on to discuss the population of the city. According to my knowledge, Detroit is a very populous city. Wikipedia definitely stressed that fact. They discussed how the population has changed over time and what it is like now in particular areas in Detroit, as well as Detroit as a whole. They talked about where Detroit’s population ranks among the rest of the State as well as the rest of the nation. All numbers sounded correct to me. Wikipedia also mentioned the many schools Detroit has. They highlighted that Detroit has the largest public school system in Michigan and is home to many colleges. They listed the colleges that reside here in Detroit, I was familiar with all of them, especially my own: Wayne state University. There is so much to know and learn about the city of Detroit; I wouldn’t have enough time to tell you in this 250-word blog. So far the few important things I looked over in Wikipedia all were true as far as I am concerned. I don’t think it’s a bad source to use for research. I actually like Wikipedia.

There is a flavored water called Sobe life water, which stemmed from Sobe energy drink that is becoming more and more popular everyday. They just recently started advertising it. They have a new commerial airing on television right now which is very entertaining. They have the logo of the sobo, which is a lizard representing the water in a lively way. As a matter of fact there is a whole gang of lizards taking over the scene along with super model Naiome Cambell. In this commercial they immatate a world renowned music video by Micheal Jackson, called "Thriller." To many people, this is very funny due to the fact that the famous coreography that was used in the video is being performed so well by little animated lizards. There aimed audience is probably no one in particular because all kinds of people of different cultures can enjoy the commercial. I believe the purpose of that advertisment is to persuade their audience that their water promotes life. Thus, the name of the water. In the Thriller video, many dead zombies came to life and danced around all night as if they were full of life. I guess Sobe is trying to relay that their drink may have such capability to that. I enjoyed watching this intriguing commerial. It really does often catch peoples eyes. I think that this ad will be a very successful one as far as getting results. I work at CVS as a cashier so I have been able to see how many people have been buying Sobe water from our store. I noticed that lately their sales have been going up rapidly. I was even curious myself to taste it, and when I did, I enjoyed it. Im glad I saw the advertisment.I cant wait to see thier next commercial!

Sample Introduction
There are a vast multitude of areas where people can go just to enjoy the atmosphere. On the other hand, there are many places people have to go to but really dont want to due to the vibe of the enviornment. Every public space has their own unique qualities whether positive or negative. After sitting in my church for over an hour, I came to the conclusion that it is a very intriguing public space to be in. For the most part, my church is a pretty enjoyable environment that can have an impact on people in various ways.

Blog 3-Past experiences with writing
My past writing experiences have actually been very rewarding. Its is because of my excellent writing skills that I am where I am today. I am a freshman at a 4-year university as journalism major. I am taking English 1020, which I didn’t have to take the class before it, because I placed into this one on the test. My writing skills and abilities that I acquired kindergarten through 12th grade are what helped me earn the scholarship money I am using to pay for my college education. I applied for a vast multitude of national scholarships, in which most of them required an essay. I won 4 of them and I know that they weren’t all won because of strictly scholastic ability. My g.p.a wasn’t the highest, nor was my ACT score. They were good but not great. It was my ability to move my readers of my essay to believe I truly deserved those scholarships. I used the conventions of writing to persuade them to chose me over thousands of other students just as qualified and even more qualified than me. I am so glad I was able to do that. I have always loved to write since a very young age. The reason being is because I love to express myself and writing is an excellent tool for communication. I am very grateful that I can convey my thoughts and feelings through writing, so it will always be a rewarding experience for me. That’s why I plan to build a career around it.

As a student in English 1020, I expect to gain a vast multitude of knowledge on the subject of English. I believe this course will allow me to acquire the wide array of skills needed to write excellent compositions. This class will equip me with the foundation I need to excel to the next levels of English classes I will take down the line. I hope that as I embark upon this journey, it is made enjoyable for me. For many students English can be a very boring and stressful class. I don’t want to look at it like that. I am hoping that I will get to write about topics that are actually interesting to me because when that is the case: I love to write.
On the other hand, if topics are very disinteresting to me, that tends to discourage me as a writer and it makes it harder for me to write a good paper. That’s probably a flaw as a writer that I need to work on. I should be able to write a good composition about anything. Same thing applies for reading; if the text we have to read is dull and dry, my mind or eyes will drift right away. I’ve been reading SF Writer and so far it’s not bad at all. It seems like a very useful book I will hold on to for guidance all through college. They give very useful information in such a neat and organized way. Yet it’s not quite a book I thought a teacher would just have us read chapters straight through. I haven’t read “The World is a Text” yet but I pray to god it’s not boring or I don’t know what I’m going to do! I just hope this English class works out great for me and I am able to meet all the teachers’ requirements so that I do well in this course. I’m striving for my favorite grade-an A! That sums up what I expect from this class.

Passionate. Determined. Generous. Outspoken. Leader. Those are all personal characteristics I posses. Sommer Patterson is the name that was given to me the day I was born; January 24, 1989. I was born and raised in Detroit Michigan. My mother’s name is Neeka Patterson; she was born to my grandparents Goerge and Mildred Patterson. She was the third born out of eight, so I have several aunts and uncles as well as cousins. I never met my father but that’s a tribulation I’ve overcome. As far as my mother’s side, I am the only child but I come from a pretty big family.
Since childhood I have always been a fun loving person who loves interacting with other people as well as offer my helping hand whenever needed. Some activities that has always interest me are writing, dancing, cheerleading, and going out with friends. New hobbies I have picked up include doing hair, exercising and producing music. I am a very creative person with a vast multitude of talents and skills. All through middle and high school I stayed involved in extra-curricular activities. I was also very active in the community. Due to my passion for education I was still able to achieve excellent grades simultaneously.
I now attend Wayne State University as an undergraduate freshman in the School of Business Administration. I decided to double major so my concentrations are marketing, as well as Journalism. I plan to achieve bachelor degrees in those subjects come spring of 2011. Yet, I may not stop there. I am considering obtaining a masters in social work or a PH.D in Psychology. I have many aspirations I want to fulfill when I graduate. I want to be an entrepreneur and own several businesses as well as become a world renowned writer. If that path doesn’t work out I want to become a social worker or Psychologist. I know without a doubt that whatever path God may chose for my life, I will be successful in it. I look forward to the joy and happiness it will bring when I get there.
